With our 3rd feature of “Scouting The Draft”, I thought we’d take a look at one of the top QB’s in this year’s draft, West Virginia QB, Geno Smith.

Strengths
Smith sets up nice in the pocket and he reads the field quickly. 71.2% completion percentage in 2012. He isn’t too quick to tuck the ball and run. Smith has a nice arm and can make all the necessary throws. I’ve seen him throw into tight windows and he makes pretty good decisions (42 TDs against 6 INTs in 2012). When needed he can challenge the opposing defense with his feet. He’s deceptively fast and seems to get better every year.
Weaknesses
He regressed during the second half of the 2012 season and turned down a Senior Bowl invite (red flag?) though I won’t fully judge until the 2013 NFL Combine coming up in a few weeks. Ran the spread offense in college so needs some work under center but he does have some experience taking snaps under center so not a huge deal. There are some character concerns that could come into play during combine interviews.
Comparable Player: Colin Kaepernick
Rumored Team Interest: Chiefs, Jaguars, Raiders
