No doubt, Barkevious Mingo is a defensive specimen. Some draftniks have predicted him to go as high as 2nd overall to Jacksonville in the 2013 NFL Draft and some have him coming to Gang Green with the 9th overall pick. I decided to take a closer look at the defensive end from LSU.

Strengths
Terrific upside, perhaps the most of any player in draft. Right now, Mingo is a pure pass rusher but he’s athletic enough to cover in space. He’s lean, athletic, and fast. He has a great motor and is great at chasing down the play. He possesses a good first step and a good inside shift move as well as a dip-move on the straight speed rush. Mingo has the frame to add more muscle mass in order to develop more as 3-down outside linebacker to help stop the run.
Weaknesses
Mingo is a liability for any defense trying to stop the run and he typically relies on speed and work ethic to make up for it. Often easy to engage and tangle up on running plays. Mingo has never played outside linebacker which is a slight concern but I’ve seen him stand and rush the passer enough at the college level, something a 3-4 outside linebacker primarily does in NFL. He doesn’t have a straight bull rush move but has enough speed moves to compensate until he puts on more muscle mass.
